City Neighbors High School
Inspired to Create
Mission Statement
The mission of City Neighbors High School is to nurture and develop young men and women who not only have excellent skills and content knowledge, but who have the ability to powerfully pursue their interests, ask questions and find answers, take ultimate responsibility for themselves and their community, and who know why and how to impact the larger world around them. Through a focus on social constructivism and project-based learning as well as an emphasis on community, creativity, and challenge - all in a small-school educational setting developed and run through partnership between parents, students, and educators - students will develop the skills, knowledge, attitudes, and confidence to allow them to thrive in our interconnected, innovative, and inspired world.
Vision Statement
In our changing world, young men and women must be prepared with a wide variety of abilities, skills and attitudes. It is important that students are confident and skilled readers, writers, mathematicians, and scientists. It is essential that our young men and women also know how to work effectively in diverse groups, develop internal motivation and high standards, show a high level of responsibility to their communities or organizations, work both independently and cooperatively, develop and complete projects, be curious about the bigger world and their role in it, present themselves and their ideas with confidence and clarity, and to surely but humbly know themselves.
At City Neighbors Charter High School, our program creates a progressive and innovative model that challenges students to the highest level of academic excellence and the highest level of personal and communal good. Through excellent teaching and learning practices, challenging courses in math, social studies, English, the Sciences, and technology, small self-governing workshop groups, cooperative learning, our advisory program, independent and group project-based learning, community service and apprenticeship work, an emphasis on the arts, strong relationships between parents, students and educators, and a collectively developed culture of trust, connection, and community, our students will be interested and ready for the world around them. They will not only be ready for higher education and the workplace of their choice, but they will also be a force in their families, their communities, their city, and the larger world.
